Cottage History
The original building (now the family room with original wood burning stove) was constructed in Morehead City in 1910. Subsequently, it was moved to its present location in Beaufort and two additions were constructed: the present day eat-in kitchen and the middle structure with dinning room, baths and two bedrooms. Architecturally, you will notice the style differences between the family room and kitchen with their vaulted ceilings and the newer middle structure.

About Beaufort, NC

Founded in 1709, Beaufort is a appealing coastal town located on Beaufort Inlet, which connects to the Atlantic Ocean. As the third oldest town in NC, Beaufort maintains a modest-town feel with its modest population of around 4,000 residents. However, during the warmer months, the town comes alive with visitors from across the globe.
Originally known as Fishtown, Beaufort's early economy relied heavily on local natural resources. Fishing, whaling, lumber production, naval stores, shipbuilding, and farming were the primary economic activities. The town was later renamed after Henry Somerset, Duke of Beaufort.
Despite having the safest and most navigable harbor among North Carolina's ports, Beaufort's commercial growth was limited due to its isolation from the interior. Today, the town is acclaimed for its laid-back atmosphere, well-preserved historic homes, and unexpectedly high-quality dining and entertainment options.

Booking the best vacation rental experience:

When to reserve a Morehead City rental & When to go:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Morehead City area. To get the best value, change your vacation week to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer warmer weather, , and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Morehead City vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • The sooner you can book, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved early. Booking your rental property up to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your vacation rental.
  • Property management companies sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually costs 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, visitors guides contain deals for nearby tours and attractions.

How to select the best vacation home:

  • Select a group lead, choose your vacation week, and choose a max budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Scuttlebutt Nautical Cottage has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Morehead City rental home search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly available online. If they are not listed, email or call the property management company before reserving your home. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds.
  • Are you visiting for a specific attraction? Use a map search to find nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking.
  • Some properties allow pets, but some don't. Allowable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask your host about pets before booking.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Be sure you get the property manager's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your . Put the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • To ensure that damages are not linked to your stay, make note of any problem areas during arrival. Make contact with the rental manager immediately to report any issues. If there is a dispute, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers disrupting your home life. Apply the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and attractions you would have not otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually help. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Lock your rental home while you're out and about. Keep your property safe!
  • Upon check-out, complete a walk-through to make sure you haven't forget any personal items. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Please make sure to walk through the property a final time and look for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can. If the manager is not available, remember to take photographs of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a excellent vacation? Most rental management companies make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or host was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
