Finding the best Emerald Isle rental experience:

When to visit & When to book:

  • Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. To get the best value, try changing your family's Morehead City vacation to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer warm temperatures, , and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months.
  • Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group.
  • Booking websites typically offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally costs between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local Morehead City area magazine when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guides have coupons for local tours and attractions.

Selecting the perfect rental home:

  • Begin by selecting vacation dates and a max budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Family Fun in the Sun! Awesome Views! Escape II is ready for you! 4 BR & 2 BA! has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is usually available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property manager before reserving the rental. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches. You will need to establish which bed configuration is best for your vacation.
  • Some rentals allow pets, and others do not. Acceptable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the property manager about pets before booking.
  • Looking for particular amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Add the owner's contact information to your phone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Lock your rental while you're out. Protect your property!
  • During check-in, record any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often times, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies is the right thing to do.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • On check-out day, complete a final walk-through to confirm you have not forget anything. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Hosts rely on great feedback to inspire more reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
