It can be easy to drive past this cute little hole-in-the-wall eatery, but longtime visitors attest that the Big Oak Drive In & Bar-B-Que is worth a second look. Located in the small beach town of Salter Path, this casual burger and BBQ joint has generations of longtime fans, and a nice simple menu that hasn’t changed much since the drive-in first opened.
The menu is simple but tempting, with a range of burgers, sandwiches, barbecue platters and packs, wings, and side orders. Seafood fans will appreciate the classic southern staples like the oyster burger, crab cake sandwich, and fresh flounder filet sandwich, as well as the more unusual items like the scallop burger and softshell crab sandwich. There’s also plenty of kid-friendly items, like cheeseburgers, hot dogs, and corn dogs, and of course, the namesake barbecue, which can be served up with a wealth of sides including sweet potato waffle fries, slaw, hush puppies, and the Down East favorite, Brunswick Stew. No meal is complete without an ice cold glass of lemonade or a milkshake, and visitors can eat outside in their vehicle, or grab a lunch to go and enjoy on the beach.
Fast and always tasty, Big Oak Drive In & Bar-B-Que is the perfect complement to a perfect beach day.
