Getting the best rental experience:

When to visit & When to book:

  • Summer is high season in the Morehead City area. Book your Morehead City vacation home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Morehead City vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during Winter holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some property management companies offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer customers an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Look for your local Morehead City visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guide magazines contain deals for local shops and restaurants.

Selecting the best rental home:

  • First and foremost, have your group agree to the best dates and a spending budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. 4BR, Ocean Front, Dogs OK - One Level! has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, reach out to the property manager before you book the property. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • If there's a particular Morehead City destination you are crazy about, browse homes that are either nearby, or those that cater to your desires.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, you must book a rental that allows animals. Ask for details on breed, size, and type requirements. Some property owners charge additional pet fees.

During your stay:

  • Take a copy of the owner's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property. Put the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • To ensure that damages are not attributed to your family's stay, record any problem areas upon check in. Get in touch with the host immediately to relay any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Often times, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are out, just like you would back home.
  • Re-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items at departure. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the property one final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take photos of the property to record its condition.
  • Remember to leave a review! Property owners rely on great feedback to inspire future bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will be thankful you shared your review find their best vacation rental. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
