Tips and Tricks for getting the best vacation home experience:

Getting the most from your vacation rental budget:

  • Reserve your vacation home in Fall or Spring months to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
  • Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your family qualifies for a special rate.
  • Property management companies usually offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Find a copy of your local Morehead City area magazine upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guide magazines contain money saving offers on local accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Filter your search:

  • Choose a group leader, choose your trip dates, and choose a maximum budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the configuration your family requires. Pet Friendly Oceanside Townhome in Atlantic Beach, NC-Barefoot Ventures has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is often available on booking pages. If they are not listed, email the host before you book the home. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • Visiting for a specific event? Try a map search to find nearby rentals.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • Some rentals allow pets, but others don't. Acceptable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the owner about pet restrictions before booking.

Tips for your stay:

  • Add the property manager's information to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • During check-in, make note of any issues with the property and immediately alert the property manager. Record all coorespondence.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, television set or coffee maker. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents many difficulties.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers disrupting your life at home. Apply the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Lock your rental property while you're away! Don't let burglars spoil your trip.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all personal belongings. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did you have a excellent stay? Many rental management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property manager was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
