Tricks and tips to get the optimal rental home experience:

Money saving strategies:

  • Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during Winter holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is an excellent way to save money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Morehead City vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your family qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Booking websites frequently offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
  • Look for your local Morehead City visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guides have coupons for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.

Finding the perfect rental home:

  • Begin by choosing trip dates and a budget.
  • Note the number beds and the bed configuration your group needs. Pet-friendly, Centrally Located, 3 Blocks to Beach! Unit 205 has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is usually accessible online. Otherwise, call the property owner before booking the property. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional pet fees or charges applied to your invoice.
  • Are you visiting for a specific attraction or event? Try a map search to find nearby properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental.

Know before you go:

  • Add the host's contact information to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are out, just like you would at home.
  • Upon check-in, note any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the property manager. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Be respectful of your neighbors. Often times, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Re-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed everything at departure. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your group have a excellent vacation? Most rental management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property manager was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
