Tips to get the best vacation rental experience:

Cost saving strategies:

  • To get the best value, change your family's Morehead City trip dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer warmer temperatures, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer.
  • In the Morehead City area, The sooner your group can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are reserved early. Reserving your rental home up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Property management companies frequently offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Often, rental management companies supply Morehead City area travel guide magazines which will include special deals, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Morehead City visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • First and foremost, have your group commit to the best dates and a max budget.
  • Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Dark and Stormy, Almost Oceanfront House in Emerald Isle, NC! has 3 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, email or call the property owner before you reserve the vacation property. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to determine what configuration is best for your vacation group.
  • Are you visiting for a single attraction? Use a map search to locate nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. .
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly rental. Make sure to ask for information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Note that some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.

More considerations:

  • Take a copy of the property manager's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your .
  • Document any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be useful if a dispute is filed.
  • Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers disrupting your peaceful neighborhood. Use the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and attractions you would have not otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Lock your rental property while you are gone! Don't let thieves ruin your family vacation.
  • Double-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed everything at departure. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the rental a final time and look for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Leave a review! Property managers rely on great feedback to stimulate more reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will will be grateful for your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
