Rental home booking tips:

Sticking to a budget:

  • Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Reserve your Morehead City vacation in Fall or Spring months to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Morehead City vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Some owners offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your group.
  • Property managers frequently offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
  • Find a copy of your local Morehead City area magazine upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guide magazines have deals for local tours and attractions.

Use filters to narrow your search:

  • Start by choosing your the best vacation week and a spending budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the configuration your group requires. 3BR Duplex - Dogs OK! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Morehead City rentals search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is almost always accessible online. If they are not listed, contact the property management company before booking the vacation home. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to establish what is best for your vacation.
  • If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly rental. Make sure to ask for information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property managers charge additional pet fees.
  • Visiting for a single event? Try a map search to find nearby rentals.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking

Know before you go:

  • Get the property manager's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, intercom or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent many problems.
  • Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property when you are out, just like you would at home.
  • To make certain that damages aren't linked to your family's visit, inspect the property for any problem areas during arrival. Contact the property manager immediately to record any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a fantastic source for finding the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Just before checking out, complete a final walk-through to confirm you did not forget anything. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the property one final time and keep an eye out for damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take photos and video of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a terrific time? Most rental home management companies make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
