Vacation rental home tips:

Get the most from your budget:

  • To get the best value, consider changing your family's Morehead City trip dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer pleasant temperatures, , and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Morehead City vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • In the Morehead City area, The earlier you can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental homes are reserved early. Reserving your rental six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your vacationing group qualifies for a special rate.
  • Property managers typically offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
  • Look for your local Morehead City visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guide magazines contain deals for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.

Make a plan and pick your prefectrental:

  • Select a group lead, choose your trip dates, and select a budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. Surfari, beautiful home on the Crystal Coast has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Morehead City vacation rental search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally available on booking websites. If they are not listed, call the host before reserving the rental. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • Is your group looking for unique amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking.
  • If your group is bringing pets, filter your search for a rental that allows animals. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Be aware that some hosts charge additional pet fees.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the instructions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
  • Record any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are very helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be respectful. Often times, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Lock your vacation home while you're out. Keep your property safe!
  • Upon check-out, take a walk-through to confirm you didn't forget anything. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Walk through the property one final time and look for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever possible. If the host is not available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Property managers rely on good feedback to compel new bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your feedback find their best rental home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
