Historical Note
The original building (now the enormous front room with original wood burning stove) was constructed in Morehead City in 1910. Subsequently, it was moved to its present location in Beaufort where two additions were added: the present day eat-in kitchen and the middle structure with dinning room, baths and two bedrooms. Architecturally, you will notice the style differences between the family room and kitchen with their vaulted ceilings and the newer middle structure.

Strategies for getting the perfect Morehead City rental home experience:

When to book a Morehead City rental & When to go:

  • The earlier your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation rentals are reserved early. Booking your rental property 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
  • Summer time is high season in the Morehead City area. To find the best value, try shifting your family's Morehead City trip dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer warm temperatures, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Morehead City vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your group qualifies for a discount.
  • Property management companies frequently offer customers an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local Morehead City visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guides have offers and deals for local tours, shops, and attractions.

Filter your rental search:

  • First, have your group agree to dates and a maximum budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Scuttlebutt Nautical Cottage in Historic Beaufort, One Block from Waterfront has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email the property owner before reserving the rental. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • Some rentals allow pets, but some don't. Allowable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the owner about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
  • Visiting for a specific event or attraction? Use a map search to locate nearby properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental

More tips for your stay:

  • Be sure you get the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental.
  • Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Keep your rental home locked while you're away! Don't let crooks ruin your family vacation.
  • Record any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately send them to the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be useful if a dispute arises.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually an incredible resource to find the best local spots.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the property to make sure you've collected all personal items. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Walk through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, take photos and video of the rental to record its condition.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Property managers rely on excellent feedback to inspire new bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will appreciate that you share your review find their best rental home. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
