Tips to get the perfect Morehead City vacation rental experience:

Cost saving strategies:

  • The sooner you can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The best rental homes are reserved early. Reserving your rental up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
  • Summertime is the most expensive season in the Morehead City area. Reserve your vacation home in Fall or Spring months to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your group qualifies for a special rate.
  • Property management companies frequently offer guests an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Look for your local Morehead City area magazine upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guide magazines have coupons for local tours and attractions.

Use filters to narrow your search:

  • Select a group lead, select your vacation week, and choose a max budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. Newly renovated beach home with decks, ocean views, and outdoor shower has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is usually available on booking pages. If they are not listed, email or call the property management company before you book your rental. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to work out what is right for your vacation.
  • Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional pet fees or costs may be applied to your agreement.
  • If there's an individual Morehead City destination you love, keep an eye out for rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.

Have a great stay:

  • Add the host's information to your smartphone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, elevator or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents quite a few concerns.
  • Keep the property locked while you're away! Don't let burglars ruin your vacation.
  • Record any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are very helpful if there is a dispute.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers bothering your peaceful home life. Practice the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and attractions you would've never otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Just prior to departing, complete a final walk-through to confirm you haven't forget any personal items. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your family have a wonderful time? Most rental home management companies make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
