Tips and Tricks to get the optimal Morehead City vacation home experience:

When to go & When to book:

  • Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Winter holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Book your rental in Fall or Spring months to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Morehead City vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your vacationing group qualifies for a discount.
  • Property management companies frequently offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
  • Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Morehead City area visitor guide magazines which include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Morehead City visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Planning, selecting, and booking a perfect Morehead City rental home:

  • First, have your group choose date ranges and a max budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration your family requires. New! - Circa 1810 Home in the Heart of the Downtown New Bern Historic District has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is regularly available online. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property manager before booking the home. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional fees or charges could be applied to your invoice.
  • Looking for special amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental

Advice for a smooth stay:

  • Be sure you get the property manager's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental.
  • Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are away, just like you would back home.
  • Make a record of any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are valuable if a dispute arises.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually an excellent resource to find the best local scenic spots.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all belongings. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental a final time and look for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, take pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a fantastic stay? Many rental managers make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your rental and/or property management company was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
