How to get the best vacation rental experience:

When to book & When to go:

  • The earlier you can book, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved early. Booking your rental home 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and book your rental home.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. To get the best rental within your budget, we strongly suggest reserving in the Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at popular Morehead City attractions and restaurants.
  • Hosts sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your group before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
  • Many rental management companies supply Morehead City area travel guides that include special deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Morehead City area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

How to choose the perfect vacation home:

  • Start by choosing your vacation dates and a maximum budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your group needs. Lazy Days, Oceanfront House in Emerald Isle, NC! has 9 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, call the property management company before reserving the vacation property. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • Some rentals allow pets, but some don't. Acceptable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the host about allowable breeds and types before booking.
  • Visiting for a specific event or attraction? Try a map search to find nearby properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. .

Know before you go:

  • Add the owner's phone number to your phone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental when you are out, just like you would at home.
  • During arrival, make note of any damages to the property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors disrupting your quiet neighborhood. Practice the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • When it's time to leave, complete a walk-through to make sure you did not leave anything behind. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the property one final time and look for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the host is not available, take photographs of the property to record its condition.
  • Did you have a fantastic vacation? Many rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or host was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
