Emerald Isle rental booking tips:

Sticking to your spending plan:

  • To find the best value, shift your group's vacation to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer warm weather, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months.
  • Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your group.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Morehead City area travel guide magazines which include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Morehead City visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Planning, picking, and booking a perfectrental home:

  • Start by selecting your trip dates and a budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the configuration your family needs. Hear and See the Sound of the Sea has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally available on booking websites. If they are not listed, email the host before you reserve your rental. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to determine what configuration is suitable for your group.
  • Is your group looking for particular amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
  • If your group is bringing pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly property. Ask for information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Usually, hosts charge additional pet fees.

During your stay:

  • Take a copy of the property manager's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property.
  • To make sure that damages aren't linked to your stay, record any problem areas during check in. Contact the host right away to document any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor. Often times, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Lock your rental property while you are away! Don't let thieves spoil your family vacation.
  • Re-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items on check-out day. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did you have a wonderful stay? Most rental management companies make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your property and/or property manager was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
