How to get the best vacation home experience:

Getting the best rental home value:

  • Summer is the most expensive season along the coast of NC. Booking a rental in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is an excellent way to save money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Morehead City vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • In the Morehead City area, The earlier you can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental properties are booked early. Booking your vacation property six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your family qualifies for a discount.
  • Booking websites typically offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Morehead City area travel guide magazines which often include special deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Morehead City visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Choosing and booking the perfectrental:

  • First, have your group decide on dates and a budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the configuration your family needs. The Gathering Place - 1 Block from Beach! has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is often accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, email or call the property manager before reserving the vacation property. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • Looking for special amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • Some properties allow pets, and others do not. Allowable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable breeds and types before booking.

More considerations:

  • Be sure you get the host's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your .
  • Note any issues with the property at check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be helpful if damages are assessed.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors bothering your peaceful home. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would have never otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Lock your rental home while you are out. Protect your property!
  • Double-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed all belongings at check-out. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental a final time and look for any damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, remember to take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Property managers rely on great ratings to compel future reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will will be grateful for your feedback find their best vacation home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
