Enjoy a gorgeous sunset, a little birdwatching, or just a leisurely and short hike that hovers above the White Oak River with a visit to the aptly-named Riverview Park. Located along NC Highway 24 / Corbett Avenue, in between the central downtown Main and Elm Streets, this quiet and modest-sized public park might be close to all the downtown and waterfront action, but truly feels like its worlds away.

The park features hundreds of feet of elevated walkways that follow the borders of the White Oak River, and which provide exceptional views of neighboring Jones Island – a small component of the famed Hammocks Beach State Park. Featuring several covered observation shelters, which each include a telescope or binoculars for enhanced vistas, the park is a prime destination for birdwatchers to catch glimpses of migrating and local birds that can range from geese and waterfowl to great blue herons. There’s also three picnic shelters for on-the-water gatherings, as well as interpretive signs throughout that point out unique aspects of the surrounding coastal environment. Serving as a natural destination for wildlife fans and everyday explorers alike, the small but scenic Riverview Park offers an in-depth perspective of how beautiful life on the Southern Outer Banks waterfront can be.
