Rental home tips and tricks:

Money saving strategies:

  • Summer months are high season in New Bern. To get the most suitable vacation home for your budget, we highly recommend booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at local restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
  • Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Booking websites usually offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly costs 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Look for your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, visitor guide magazines have coupons for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.

How to pick the perfect vacation rental:

  • Start by having your group select the best dates and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration your group needs. Tryon Palace, Neuse River, Birthplace of Pepsi has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is almost always accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, email or call the property management company before reserving your rental. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to establish what is suitable for your group.
  • If there's a specific Morehead City attraction you are enamored with, browse properties that are either close by, or those that cater to your desires.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • Some properties allow pets, but others don't. Acceptable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the owner about pets before booking.

Considerations for your stay:

  • Add the host's contact information to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Document any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately send them to the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are valuable if there is a dispute.
  • Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors bothering your peace and quiet. Apply the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and places you would have not otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Keep your rental home locked while you're gone! Don't let thieves spoil your holiday.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the property to make sure you've collected everything. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Please make sure to walk through the property a final time and look for damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can. If the host isn't available, take photos and video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a excellent time? Many rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property manager was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
