Our top Rental home tips and tricks:

When to visit & When to reserve a rental home:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. Reserve your Morehead City vacation in the Spring or Fall to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Morehead City vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some owners offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your group.
  • Property managers usually offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guide magazines contain discounts for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Planning, picking, and booking your prefectrental home:

  • Begin by choosing your trip dates and a budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the configuration your family requires. Oceanside, Pet-friendly Emerald Isle home, 5-min walk to beach and restaurants has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually available on booking pages. Otherwise, contact the property management company before you reserve your home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches. You'll need to establish what is best for your group.
  • Are you visiting for a specific attraction? Try a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental.
  • If your group is bringing pets, search for a pet-friendly property. Make sure to ask for details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Note that some property managers charge additional pet fees.

More considerations:

  • We recommend storing the owner's information in your smartphone.
  • Make a record of any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are very helpful if there is a dispute.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, intercom or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent lots of concerns.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors disrupting your life at home. Use the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can frequently help. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Lock your rental home while you are out and about. Protect your property!
  • Re-check every room of the property to confirm that you've packed everything at check-out. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Hosts rely on good ratings to drive more reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your experience find their best vacation rental. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
