Our top Rental home booking tips and tricks:

Find your best deal:

  • The sooner you can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are reserved very early. Booking your rental 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
  • Summer months are high season in the Morehead City area. To find the best value, change your vacation week to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer great weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Morehead City vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer customers an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
  • Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Morehead City area visitors guides which will include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Morehead City visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

How to pick the perfect vacation home:

  • Select your vacation week and spending budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. Ocean-front residence with unparalleled views has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is usually available online. If not, reach out to the property management company before booking your home. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, but others don't. Allowable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask your host about pets before booking.
  • If there's a specific Morehead City destination you are enamored with, look for homes that are either close by, or those that cater to your requirements.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. .

More considerations for your visit:

  • Get the host's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental. Put the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents a lot of issues.
  • Lock your rental property while you are out! Don't let thieves spoil your holiday.
  • During arrival, make note of any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the host. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors bothering your home life. Apply the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would've never otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Re-check the property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings at check-out. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property one final time and scan for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take photos and video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Leave feedback! Hosts rely on good ratings to stimulate more reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will will be grateful for your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
