Vacation rental home tips:

Getting the most from your spending budget:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Morehead City area. To get the most suitable vacation home for your budget, we recommend reserving in the Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at restaurants, beaches, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months.
  • The sooner your group can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are booked early. Reserving your vacation rental six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
  • Hosts sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Property managers often offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local Morehead City visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guides have deals for nearby tours and attractions.

How to choose and book yourrental:

  • First, have your family choose dates and a spending budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration you need. Lovely 1 BR with King bed Apt 4 has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally accessible on booking websites. If not, email the host before booking your home. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to establish what configuration is optimal for your group.
  • Is your group looking for unique amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking
  • If your family is traveling with pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly property. Make sure to ask for information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Note that some property managers charge additional pet fees.

Additional considerations:

  • Store the owner's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Make a record of any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately send them to the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be very helpful if a dispute arises.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors disrupting your life at home. Apply the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would've not otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Lock your rental home while you are away. Protect your property!
  • When it's time to leave, take a final walk-through to confirm you haven't forget anything. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did you have a great stay? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property management company was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
