Our top New Bern rental property booking tips and tricks:

Sticking to your spending plan:

  • Summertime is the most expensive season in coastal NC. To get the largest vacation home for your budget, we recommend reserving in the Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at Morehead City restaurants, tours, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Morehead City vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • The earlier your group can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The best rental homes are booked early. Booking your rental six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation rental.
  • Hosts sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your group.
  • Property managers often offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Look for your local Morehead City visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guide magazines have discounts for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

Make a plan and choose yourrental:

  • Choose vacation week and spending budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Double Up in Downtown New Bern! has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Morehead City rentals search.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email the property management company before booking the property. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • If there's a certain Morehead City destination you simply love, search for homes that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and some don't. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the property manager about pets before booking.

Tips for your stay:

  • Add the host's contact information to your phone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Record any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately contact the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are helpful if a dispute is filed.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, television set or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent quite a few problems.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers disrupting your life at home. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently help. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Lock your rental property while you are out! Don't let crooks spoil your family vacation.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the property to confirm you've collected everything. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Please make sure to walk through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a terrific stay? Many rental management companies make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your property and/or property management company was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
