Tips and Tricks for getting the perfect vacation home experience:

Find your perfect vacation home:

  • Summertime is high season in New Bern. Reserve your rental property in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Morehead City vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • In the Morehead City area, The sooner you can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation homes are reserved early. Booking your rental property up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation home.
  • Some owners offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Booking websites frequently offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local Morehead City area magazine upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guides contain money saving offers on local shops and restaurants.

Make a plan and pick the perfectrental:

  • Start by choosing a vacation week and a max budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your family needs. Double Up in Downtown New Bern! has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the host before you book the property. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds.
  • If there's an individual Morehead City beach you are crazy about, keep an eye out for homes that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental.
  • Some properties allow pets, but some don't. Allowable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable breeds and types before booking.

Tips for a smooth stay:

  • Store the owner's contact information in your smartphone.
  • To make sure no damages are linked to your stay, inspect the rental for any problem areas during arrival. E-mail the host right away to document any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents quite a few concerns.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors bothering your peaceful home life. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and places you would have never otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • Re-check the property to make sure that you've packed everything at departure. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did you have a fantastic time? Many rental management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property management company was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
