Vacation rental tips and tricks:

When to reserve a Morehead City rental & When to go:

  • Summer is the most expensive season in Emerald Isle. To get the most suitable rental home within budget, we recommend reserving in the Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at restaurants, beaches, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
  • Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family.
  • Property managers frequently offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Often, property management companies supply Morehead City area visitor guide magazines which often include special deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Morehead City visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Planning, selecting, and booking the bestrental:

  • Start by choosing the best vacation week and a spending budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Bermuda House, Almost Oceanfront House in Emerald Isle, NC! has 6 bedrooms and 8 bathrooms.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is almost always available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, contact the property manager before reserving the rental. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • Looking for unique amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking.
  • If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Usually, hosts charge pet deposits and fees.

Advice for your stay:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Add a note with the directions to your smartphone, and take a printed backup.
  • To make sure that damages are not linked to your family's visit, make a record of any problem areas upon check in. Make contact with the rental manager immediately to relay your findings. If there is a dispute, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually an excellent source for finding the best local scenic spots.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property when you are away, just like you would back home.
  • On check-out day, complete a final walk-through to confirm you have not forget anything. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the rental a final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, remember to take pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Leave a review! Property owners rely on excellent feedback to stimulate more bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will will be grateful for your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
