Carteret County Speedway, opened in September 2015, is the vision of track owner Bobby Watson. Watson was a renowned Go-Kart promoter and a racer before that.
With a lot of help, which included consultation with “The Last American Hero”, racing legend Junior Johnson, the 4/10-mile track took over a decade to build but the dream came to life in the summer of 2015. On Labor Day Weekend in 2015, the former Go-Kart track hosted its first race as the brand new Carteret County Speedway with Clay Jones claiming the win in a thriller.
Carteret County Speedway is 4/10-mile in length with eight degrees (8°) of banking in the turns and four degrees (4°) of banking on the straightaways. The low banking and the wide, sweeping corners makes the track more of a driver’s racetrack.
However, Carteret County Speedway is more than just a racetrack. For racers and fans, it’s a racing paradise. Located just a few miles away from Emerald Isle, North Carolina, the track is also a museum of racing history with memorabilia collected over decades surrounding the speedway.
