Our top Emerald Isle rental property booking tips:

Get the most from your spending budget:

  • Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Winter holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. Booking a rental in Fall or Spring months is our favorite way to save money on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Morehead City vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Owners sometimes offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Booking websites typically offer their guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Look for your local Morehead City visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guides contain offers and deals for nearby accommodations and attractions.

Filter your rental search:

  • Begin by selecting your potential vacation weeks and a budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the bed configuration you need. Adorable 2nd Row Cottage with an Ocean View! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is commonly available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, call the property manager before you reserve the rental. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to determine what configuration is suitable for your vacation family.
  • If your family is bringing pets, you must book a pet-friendly rental. Get specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Usually, property managers charge additional pet fees.
  • Visiting for a single event? If so, use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental

Have a fantastic stay:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Add a note with the directions to your smartphone, and take a printed backup.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are away, just like you would back home.
  • Document any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately contact the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are very helpful if damages are assessed.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Often times, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can frequently help. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Double-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings at check-out. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property one final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take video of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a fantastic vacation? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
