Tips and Tricks to get the best vacation property experience:

Find your best deal:

  • Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer months are the most expensive season in coastal NC. To find the best value, try shifting your vacation to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer great temperatures, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Morehead City vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • Property management companies sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
  • Property managers typically offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local Morehead City visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guide magazines have deals for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Filter your rental search:

  • Begin by selecting vacation dates and a max budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. Sunset Bay Retreat- Sound Front, Pet Friendly Home has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is generally accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, email the property manager before you book your rental. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds. You'll need to determine what configuration is optimal for your vacation.
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, filter your search for a rental that allows animals. Make sure to ask for details on breed, size, and type requirements. Some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
  • If there's a specific Morehead City destination you are enamored with, look for properties that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

More considerations:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the instructions to your phone, and take a printed backup.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, television set or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent many difficulties.
  • Lock your rental property while you are away! Don't let thieves spoil your family vacation.
  • To ensure that no damages are attributed to your family's stay, note any problem areas when you arrive. Speak to the host right away to record your findings. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a great resource to find the best local attractions.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • When it's time to leave, take a final walk-through to make sure you haven't forget any personal items. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Hosts rely on great ratings to propel new bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your experience find their best vacation rental. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
