Money-saving Tips

  • Find the official tourism bureau where you want to visit. Most tourism bureaus supply promotional tourism guides with savings for rental homes, restaurants and attractions. These guides provide a great start to your vacation rental search.
  • Flexible about when you might visit? The off-peak shoulder seasons will offer you incredible rates on rental properties.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the U.S. Military may be qualified for cost savings. Be sure to check with property owner to see if your visiting gang qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Some homes are primarily suited for specific types of travellers. Event homes are ideal for weddings, wedding receptions and corporate meetings. Some homes cater to wildlife enthusiasts. Other properties are situated close to music venues. Make sure that you prioritize your proximity to the outdoor activities and locations you are most interested in.
  • Vacation rental companies and individual rental home owners frequently offer clients an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally add anywhere between 1% - 5% of the basic vacation rental cost, provides visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any nights missed due to medical-related emergencies or storms, as well as ensuing extra hurricane evacuation costs or charges, like an unanticipated hotel stay or additional fuel. Trip insurance can be a bank account-saver if the unforseen occurs (heaven forbid!).

The Rental Process

Rental homes are gaining in popularity among vacationers, and visitors will find that the sheer number of rental properties available makes it possible to find an suitable getaway to accommodate their Morehead City crew, from quiet condos to giant event homes with several bedrooms.

Nearly all vacation homes in Morehead City are privately owned and many are represented by experienced local rental management companies. Owners often choose management companies to facilitate advertising, housekeeping and routine maintenance.

Seasoned Morehead City vacationers have discovered a number of tips and tricks throughout the years with regards to renting vacation rentals, however many beginners will be delighted to find that several "methods" are in plain sight, if you know how to search.

Where to find and reserve the perfect vacation home:

Do you think "Awesome Sound Front Condo on Beautiful Emerald Isle" is the perfect rental property for your upcoming visit? Browse through this checklist to ensure it fits all of your preferences.

The Earlier You Begin, The Better The Choices

Like many renowned vacation spots, In Morehead City the best rentals are booked very early. To assure the very best choice of properties, we suggest searching and booking your Morehead City rental home 6-Twelve months before your travel dates, whenever possible. A lot of visitors prefer to begin their search over Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years Eve holiday gatherings.

Find your Area and Establish Dates

Start by choosing which specific area of Morehead City you want to browse, and the approximate trip dates.

Choosing an Correctly-Sized Vacation rental

Take a head count. How many beds and bedrooms will you need? Bear in mind that most rental homes advertise maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in the living room space. You will need to figure out what is most appropriate for your party. Specific descriptions of bedrooms and beds are commonly available on the internet. If not, speak to the property manager before you reserve the home.

Stick to a Budget

Confirm that "Awesome Sound Front Condo on Beautiful Emerald Isle" satisfies your budget *during your desired week*. Make sure you get cost-sharing commitments from family and friends prior to booking a pricey vacation property. Generally speaking, just one member of the group will be liable for making the full reservation and getting each family member's share.

Its All About Amenities

What home features is your family trying to find? Do you only desire a vacation rental with a swimming pool, jacuzzi or beach volleyball court? Do you want to be far from the crowds, or close to civilization? Are bedsheets included with the rental agreement, or do you need to take your own? Make a list of priority amenities to help filter your search.

Special Circumstances

Grandpa and Grandma will appreciate you for not reserving a stairs-access-only condominium on the Third floor. Be sure to remember and inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs..

Your Dog Deserves a Holiday, Too

Be sure to include your companion! Animal guidelines are different at each rental property. Study descriptions thoroughly. Type of animal, size and breeds can be limited. Read your agreement carefully! Extra charges may apply when animals are added. If in doubt, ask the property manager and get it in writing.

It Is Time to Search

Several websites exist to match visitors with rental owners.. Together with Homeaway, VRBO and Tripadvisor, we advise searching Google for "Morehead City local rental properties" for local property management companies. Local rental home management companies pride themselves on a top-quality vacation experience.

Negotiate

When you have located your dream rental, double check to make sure your trip dates are available.

Although not true for all properties, many rental owners and property managers will negotiate rates. If they are hesitant to budge on a highly-desirable trip, try getting an additional night. Your best opportunity for a reduced rate will be changing to a less desirable week.

Study the Contract

Discover which of the following is included in your quoted rate:

  • Electric bills
  • Internet Connectivity
  • Telephone service
  • Hot Tub Heating
  • Cable and pay-per-view TV
  • Cleaning Service
  • Trash Pickup (and which day?)
  • Maintenance (get a phone number)
  • Key exchange
  • Parking requirements

Get a total that incorporates taxes, animal and other extra fees.

Cancelling your Vacation Property

Be sure you be aware of the cancellation policy before reserving. Many rental property contracts include an option for trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the standard vacation rental cost, provides travellers with reimbursement of their vacation costs (and subsequent rental costs) for any nights missed resulting from personal hospital emergencies or storms, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as a unforeseen motel stay or extra gas.

Reserve your Rental

When everything seems right, it's finally time to sign on the dotted line. Keep in mind that most rental contracts will require a substantial rental down payment and/or security deposit to safeguard the vacation rental owner.

Get Contact Information

Be sure to get the manager's contact phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home. We suggest saving the contact's information in your smart phone and wallet.

Congrats! All that is left is making the most of your visit!

During your Stay

  • To assure no damages are linked to your visit, make a record of any problem areas of the property. We also recommend immediately getting in touch with the rental home manager with a report of any damages, together with your request for any critical repairs.
  • Ask questions. You could need guidance for a fireplace, Television set or spa. Contact your home manager. They are there to help. A quick phone call avoids many hassles.
  • Remember to be a good neighbor. Local people are likely to be as friendly to you as you are respectful of them. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a visit a good deal more relaxing.
  • Ask a local. Local residences can frequently point you in the right direction.
  • Be sure to protect the rental owner (and your things!) by keeping the property locked up when you are away, exactly like you would at home.

When its Time to Leave

  • Make sure you've packed everything. Examine drawers, bath cupboards and closets.
  • Be sure to walk through the rental one final time and check for property damage. Whenever possible, do this walk-out inspection with the property owner present. If the property owner is not available, you'll want to take photos of the property to record its condition.
  • Did you enjoy yourself? Most rental home management companies and rental home sites make it easy for renters to offer reviews. If the property and/or property manager was excellent, they will likely appreciate your compliments. If anything was disagreeable and they did not fix it in a practical manner, or when the rental wasn't as described, you may want to make it a point as part of your critique.

Learn from your Experience

Did everyone have a blast? Hopefully this guide helped you find a great rental unit. If the rental home wasn't perfect, and you'll better understand how to perfect your search for the next vacation.
