Our top Vacation rental tips:

Sticking to your rental budget:

  • To get the largest rental within your budget, we recommend booking in Fall or Spring months. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at the beach and popular Morehead City attractions. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Morehead City vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • The earlier your group can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation homes are booked very early. Reserving your rental up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation rental.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your group qualifies for a reduced rate.
  • Property managers often offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Morehead City area visitor guide magazines which include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local companies, or through a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Planning and choosing your prefect Morehead City rental:

  • Begin by selecting your vacation dates and a budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. Canal House Getaway with beach access has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is generally available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property manager before booking your home. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • Visiting for a specific attraction? If so, use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available before booking
  • Some properties allow pets, and others don't. Acceptable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the host about allowable pet guidelines before booking.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Add a note with the instructions to your smartphone, and take a printed copy.
  • At Check-in, make note of any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the host. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, television set or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents quite a few problems.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers bothering your home life. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and places you would have not otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Lock your vacation home while you are out. Protect the owner's property and your things!
  • Upon check-out, take a final walk-through to make sure you have not forget any personal items. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the rental one final time and scan for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the manager is not available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did you have a fantastic stay? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
