Strategies for getting the best Atlantic Beach rental home experience:

Sticking to your spending budget:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Morehead City area. To find the largest rental within budget, we recommend booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at the beach and popular attractions. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Morehead City vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • The sooner you can book, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation homes are booked very early. Reserving your rental up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental property.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family.
  • Property management companies frequently offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Look for your local Morehead City visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guides contain deals for nearby accommodations and attractions.

Selecting and booking your prefectrental home:

  • First, have your group decide on the best dates and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. Side-by-side homes with two full kitchens, washers and dryers, & AC has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly available on booking pages. If they are not listed, call the property manager before you reserve the vacation property. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to determine what is suitable for your family.
  • If there's an individual Morehead City destination you simply love, look for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater to your requirements.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • If your family is bringing pets, filter your search for a rental that allows animals. Ask for specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Usually, property managers charge pet deposits and fees.

Considerations for your stay:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the directions to your smartphone.
  • Note any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately send them to the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are beneficial if damages are assessed.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors bothering your quiet neighborhood. Practice the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Lock your rental while you're away. Keep your property safe!
  • Re-check every room of the property to confirm that you've packed all belongings at departure. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Please make sure to walk through the property one final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
  • Leave a review! Property managers rely on good feedback to inspire more reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will will be grateful for your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
