Tips and Tricks to get the best vacation property experience:

Finding your best deal:

  • Summertime is the most expensive season in the Morehead City area. Reserving a rental home in Spring or Fall is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
  • Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Property managers often offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Morehead City area visitor guide magazines which often include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Morehead City visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Narrow your rental Search:

  • Start by having your family commit to date ranges and a spending budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration your group needs. Great Stay & Located Middle Row! EI Bungalow One Minute Walk to Beach & Sound! has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always accessible online. If you don't see them listed, email the property owner before booking the vacation property. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches. You'll need to determine which bed configuration is best for your vacation.
  • Visiting for a single attraction or event? Use a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Additional fees or costs applied to your invoice.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Add the property manager's contact info to your phone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • To ensure that damages are not linked to your stay, inspect for any problem areas upon check in. Make contact with the property manager right away to document any damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be respectful of your neighbors. Often, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are away, just like you would at home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all personal items. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did you have a great time? Many rental managers make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property management company was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
