How to find the best rental experience:

Cost saving strategies:

  • Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer is the most expensive season in the Morehead City area. Booking your vacation rental in the Fall or Spring is a great way to save on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Morehead City vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Property management companies sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your group.
  • Booking websites often offer their guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local Morehead City visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guides contain offers and deals for local tours, shops, and attractions.

Planning, selecting, and booking the perfectrental home:

  • Choose your vacation week and spending budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Emerald View - heated pool no fee! Ocean view just steps from the beach. has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is often available online. Otherwise, reach out to the property owner before reserving your rental. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to establish what configuration is right for your family.
  • If your family is bringing pets, you will need a pet-friendly rental. Get specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
  • Visiting for a specific attraction? Use a map search to locate nearby properties.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Store the host's information in your smartphone.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent quite a few concerns.
  • Keep your rental home locked while you're away! Don't let crooks spoil your vacation.
  • Note any damages to the property during check in, and immediately contact the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are valuable if there is a dispute.
  • Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often times, nearby homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • When it's time to leave, complete a walk-through to confirm you did not leave anything behind. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property one final time and look for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take photographs of the rental to record its condition.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Hosts rely on excellent ratings to compel future bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
